Couples therapy in Stockholm

Couples therapy - when the relationship needs support

Many couples long for love and understanding, but still get stuck in recurring conflicts, misunderstandings or feelings of distance. Couples therapy gives you the opportunity to understand the patterns that create blockages and what lies behind them.
Through conversations, you get the tools to express needs, listen openly and meet each other in a new way. We work to create clear dialog, build trust and find ways forward. You can book an appointment for couples therapy in Gamla Stan or online.

IBCT - Intergrative behavioral therapy for couples

I work with Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT), which is an evidence-based treatment that combines acceptance and change. The method is adapted to each couple’s unique situation, regardless of cohabitation or sexual orientation.

The method focuses on:

  • Understanding patterns in interaction
  • Developing empathy for each other’s perspectives
  • Increase the ability to reach each other emotionally
  • Finding new solutions to old problems

IBCT is a flexible method that is not limited to couples, but is also relevant in work groups and friendships where misunderstandings and conflicts occur.

How couple therapy works

First call

In the first session, you both describe your relationship, the problems you experience and what you want help with. The focus is on understanding each other’s perspectives and identifying desired changes.

Planning of calls

Together, we map the communication patterns and themes that create deadlocks in the relationship. Together we formulate goals for the conversations, for example to restore trust or improve appreciation in everyday life.

The course of therapy

During therapy, we work on paying attention to patterns of interaction, for example, if one often avoids conflict while the other presses on. Through reflection, couple therapy exercises and understanding of underlying problems, you can break the pattern.

Between calls, homework is often given to deepen the work between calls. These can include exercises in active listening, acknowledging each other or dealing with conflict in new ways.

Please note: If you are unable to attend, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the appointment to avoid being charged.

The goal

The therapy ends by consolidating the changes you have made. It is important to remember that this is a continuous process and that change can happen in small steps. You will also be provided with tools to address future challenges together.
